Prior to installation of this hoist, significant difficulties were experienced by people with physical disabilities wanting to make use of the Soft Play Room's facilities.

With the help of the hoist, complete access to all the facilities is now available. The hoist travels from one end of the room lifting the person using it with no discrimination to weight and size of the person. Height can also be adjusted according to preference while health and safety regulations are also safeguarded.

Soroptimist International is a worldwide organization for women in management and professions, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women.

When Soroptimist Malta visited the Therapy & Leisure Centre in Marsascala they witnessed the difficulties experienced by people with physical disabilities and their inability to engage in all the facilities offered by the Soft Play area.  Realizing the need for the hoist in the Soft Play area they decided to donate part of the proceeds from their fundraising barbecue towards this cause.
